Arjan van der Kieft Schaatsen

Arjen van der Kieft is probably the most unknown skaters who even before the Vancouver Olympics have placed. Find out who he is and what he has already done. He currently skates for skating team of Gianni Romme, the games he comes out the 10 kilometers.

As a junior

Arjen van der Kieft was born on 17 May 1985 in Zwanenburg.His first major skating event was World Single Distance CHAMPIONSHIPS for juniors in 2003, where he won a silver medal with the Dutch team in the hunt. A year later, he was at the World Allround Championships for juniors 6th.


Since 2005 Van der Kieft operates seniors there. During their first LINK distance, he finished 8th in the 5 km and 7 in 10 km. These routes he ran again in the next few years, with a 5th place at the 10th kilometers in 2007 as a highlight. The same year he rode his first wereldbekerwesdtrijden, where he finished 25: ei the combined standings of 5 and 10 km World Cup a year later, he was 32. It is worth mentioning that in 2009 during the World Cup matches in the B group broke the track record in Hamar, with a time of 13:04:38. A day later, but it was taken back by Sven Kramer.

2010 Olympics

Van der Kieft started the season 2009/2010 with a 4th place in the 10-kilometer distance in NK. At the Olympic qualifying tournament, he ran a personal best of 2.13.99 to a 2nd place, as he qualified for the Olympics. He left including Carl Verheijen, Wouter Olde Heuvel behind. World Champion Sven Kramer will be released at this distance at the Olympics.
