At the launch of the iPad 2, of all the accessories available for iPad 2, Steve Jobs spoke more about the”Smart Cover” magnetic coverthan any other accessory. But there’s also an iPad dock to the Motorola Milestone dock chip that can be used to recharge or sync your iPad 2 with your PC.
Costing $ 29 but not yet available for sale, this iPad dock also has a 3.5mm audio jack so that external speakers can be used.
Dock for iPad 2
There is also a common dock connector in which you can plug in a sync or recharge USB cable or a 10W AC adapter for the same purpose. Unfortunately neither the cable nor the AC adapter are sold together with the iPad 2 dock so it would be another $ 29 if you do not want to have to plug and unplug the dock cable at all times.
You can also use the Apple Digital Video Adapter to connect your iPad2 to a larger screen via HDMI. Even without a release date there are rumors that the iPad 2 dock will hit the market as early as March 2011.
Is it worth buying the iPad 2 dock?
The dock is quite small and portable, which makes it relatively easy to carry to everywhere. Its design without many”firules” house very well with the design that Apple adopts for your iPad. The dock is a great tool to place your iPad in a vertical position, making it easier to read on straight surfaces. But in bed or sitting in an armchair, I do not see much use for the dock.
