The tempurious tannoy DC 10 tonnes (5500 euros the pair) is recommended particularly for rather delicately designed, smaller amplifier and exceptionally large rooms; both are their domain.

The Scottish boxing farmer Tannoy similarly has a long tradition in the construction of point emitters such as KEF, and is regarded by connoisseurs as one of its main protagonists. In addition to Studio and stage monitors, Tannoy builds many product lines for home applications with coaxial systems under the sales name ‘Dual Concentric’.
One of the most recent and most interesting for audiophile series is the definition line, whose top model DC 10 T was the test available. For round 5500 euro come two burly, at least 34 centimeters wide standing speakers in the House, with veneered and painted in addition housing that gently curved Birch plywood is made.
The wood comes from a particularly heavy, slow-growing tree species and should secure a particularly neutral and fine sound in conjunction with targeted the stiffeners. So unmistakably like the box, also the two 10-inch chassis – a pure woofer are one – that the Tannoy in this round of the largest total membrane area secure.
Until about 200 Hertz, the massive, controlled by double beaded cone drivers are together on the road, everything about it is the top, whose center is the tweeter hidden, strong returned to behind the front of the boxes.
The 25 mm large spherical membrane made of titanium must in the DC 10 T in early 1400 Hertz to work, an octave lower than usual. The unorthodox separation prevents an allowing from dispersion in the middle that would otherwise hard to avoid in a 10-incher.
Truly unconventional, Tannoy handles the subject of crossovers. The ready assembled boards are cooled for a short time, to 190 degrees below zero, to “relax” the micro-structure of the components. The effect of a ground socket, with which the British equip their upscale models for many years is more predictable. In environments with strong radio signals or electro-smog, the effect (more calm, more purity) is sometimes clear, even weakly noticeable.
The powerful, almost greedy sound character of the British, who umgarnte her audience with a directness and enthusiasm that immediately and magically managed the delicate skinned KEF, and certainly not the well-behaved Piega was definitely unique.
The DC 10 T could blare and trumpets that it was a real pleasure. She also proved to be extremely frugal to watt and harmonised as only in this round fully with corporeal tuned tube amplifiers which are understood to tame their excessive play instinct in a most pleasant way.
On the reference transistor electronics sounded significantly edgier than the Piega the Tannoy. KEF also turned out to be as pleasing and in the sum of homogeneous. The Tannoy as a mother her young defended only a narrow border area with complex bass runs and highest levels. Thus, the DC recommends 10 T rather delicately designed, smaller amplifier and exceptionally large rooms; both are their domain.
+ Successful processing. Needs little power. Spirited like no other, making powerful mood.
– For smaller rooms, almost already too powerful in the bass range.
