Twitter Testing New Ad Format: Polls

More advertisements will appear in your timeline soon. Together with the Institute research Nielsen, the Twitter is testing a new ad format: polls. The sponsored research will allow companies to measure the return of their campaigns and find out the opinions of users in a more organized way.

The polls will be displayed as promoted tweets, both on the desktop and in mobile .After clicking the tweet the link, the user is directed to a page with the search, which may even have more than one question. In the official blog ads, Twitter showed a poll displayed on the official client for iPhone:

Just like promoted tweets, polls will be restricted to the official Twitter applications, so you will not see the ads on Tweetbot, Seesmic, Twitterrific, Rowi and many other third-party customers – which may explain why Twitter is imposing heavy restrictions the use of its API .

For now Twitter is testing the new format with a small number of advertisers. I do not know if people would like to respond to polls sponsored on Twitter (I do not). We will not know more details about the effectiveness of these ads in 2013, when they are released for more companies.
