ZTE Grand S Flex: Chic LTE Deals With an Old Android

The Flex is a cheap mid-range Smartphone that although has LTE and a large 5-inch HD screen, but with Android 4.1 runs.

First of all, to clarify: ZTE Grand S Flex has despite its name not flexible or curved display à la Samsung Galaxy Round or LG G Flex. Where the “Flex” comes from, probably remains a mystery by ZTE.

Award-winning design

Because the device, which the Chinese now introduce in Germany, it is basically a solid mid-range Smartphone that could lure the one or the other customers due to its cheap price of €299 (EIA). Outside the 8.9 mm thin and 130 grams light unit is based on the upper-class model ZTE Grand S, which won the iF design award 2013.

The large 5-inch IPS display resolves with 1,280 x 720 pixels, what ppi corresponds to a pixel density of 294. Thus, the screen is not quite as crisp sharp as at other 5-inch, which dissolve in FullHD (E.g. Sony Xperia Z1, LG Google nexus 5 or Samsung Galaxy S4), however, such as viewing high-definition movies on the S Flex should be fun.

Jelly bean only in version 4.1

The Smartphone is powered by the 2012 -Qualcomm Snapdragon processor S4 plus, the Dual cores on à 1.2 GHz clock and a 305 Adreno GPU offers. The memory is 16 GB, internal memory, a MicroSD memory slot you are looking for in vain. Cameras, there is a 8-megapixel rear camera with auto focus and Flash in addition to a 1 mega pixel Frontkam for video calls.

The biggest weakness of the Grand S Flex is certainly the outdated operating system Google Android 4.1 jelly bean. It was almost one and a half years ago with the first ASUS Google nexus 7 presented – the latest version is Android 4.4 KitKat. Why ZTE Flex a such old OS treats, remains questionable. One can only hope that it will still provide an update on the newer versions.

LTE, but short conversation times

Positive to mention is, however, the remaining facilities: as LTE as well as Bluetooth is 4.0 and a dual microphone on board. The 2,300 mAh battery is sufficient according to manufacturer’s instructions only for three measly hours of talk time, what would be really little. The stand by time is 250 hours. Other features include GPS, DLNA, WiFi direct, MicroUSB, WLAN 802.11 b / g / n.

Who places emphasis not on the latest Android, but on his Smartphone would have a big screen and especially fast-paced Internet, should consider closer cheap Grand S Flex.
